Weather Closing/Delay Policy
-
We would like to be prepared ahead of time regarding school closings and early dismissals that may occur. Listed below is important information that you need to know regarding school procedures.
The Superintendent of the Fairfield Public Schools decides if there will be school closings or delayed openings due to weather. Listen to WICC 600 AM or WEBE 108 FM radio stations, watch Connecticut TV News, call 255-TALK. You may also sign up for closing and delay text alerts via WFSB Ch3 or NBC CT. If you hear or see that Fairfield Public Schools are closed or delayed, we will follow suit.
If bad weather is predicted or occurs during the day while we are in session, PLEASE tune in to the media stations above so that you will be aware if schools close early. Once again, the Superintendent of Fairfield Public Schools makes that decision, usually before 11:00 a.m. ***PARENTS PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE SCHOOL***
Delayed Opening
If we have a delayed opening, school will start 2 HOURS later than usual. The 1st bell will ring at 9:50 a.m. Morning prayer and Pledge of Allegiance will begin at 9:57 a.m. In this case, you can expect your child’s bus to arrive approximately 2 HOURS later than the normal time. Please DO NOT drop off your child before 9:30 a.m. because there is no supervision available in the school.School Cancellation
If school is cancelled for the day, all daytime and evening school events held at the school are cancelled.Early Dismissal
Early Dismissal poses the greatest concern. We have developed procedures to make sure that all children arrive home safely. It is difficult for the children to make phone calls, or for parents to call in instructions for early dismissal because we have only two phone lines to handle both outgoing and incoming calls. Therefore, once the Superintendent notifies the school of an early dismissal, the emergency dismissal plan that you completed at the beginning of the year will fall into place. Please go over the plan with your child(ren) so they are aware of the Early Dismissal Plan you have chosen. Each classroom teacher will help the students with their plans based on these forms. Send a note in advance to the classroom teacher if there is a change either to the emergency plan or to the emergency contact person responsible for your child(ren). In the event of an early dismissal all after school programs held in the school are cancelled, including the After School Care Program.
We can ensure the safety of all the students only if everyone follows the above procedures. Thank you for your cooperation.
